The first Macy's store to ever open was in Haverhill, Massachusetts. It first opened in 1851. Macy's was founded by Rowland Hussey Macy. The first 4 stores he opened failed. But in 1858 he tried again and learned from his mistakes. He moved to New York and opened a new store. So technically the first Macy's store opened in New York in 1858. Macy's has grown to be a Nationally known store having stores in almost or every state in America. In 1924 Macy's started a Thanksgiving day parade. Which has been going on ever since and just getting bigger and bigger. It is most commonly known as the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade". It plays on TV every thanks giving morning and its held in New York City and starts at 9 am. In 1875, Rowland Macy started to work with two partners Robert M. Valentine who was his nephew and Abiel T. La Forge of Wisconsin, who was the husband of Rowland's cousin. Rowland Hussey Macy' died in 1877 from British disease. The store is still alive today though and is one of the most Nationally known department stores.
